So anyway, my roommates just suggested that I should start blogging again. Specifially this blog and not another one. They were being sarcastic but I think I smelled a hint of the truth and longing not far behind. So here we are almost 2 years to the exact DAY since my last post. Let the revival begin! I also really needed a constructive way to fill my days and nights as I have been watching far too much television. As of right now that will be the main theme of this blog: How should Adam spend his free time? For the most part I will be answering this question but maybe we can do a reader vote if and when this blog has readers. Here's a 'for instance' on why I feel the need to focus the blog on this specific subject: Adam's Sunday - got up at noon - watched Payback starring Mel Gibson yes, THE Mel Gibson - went shoe shopping and yet bought nary a pair of shoes - watched football - watched HBO's Rome thats it. Now some people might say "Whats wrong with that?" Here's whats wrong with that. I LIVE IN MOTHER FUCKING NEW YORK CITY! Why am I doing things that can literally be done in any other town anywhere? Most of things would be OK if they were mixed in with some other activity involving exercise or, oh I don't know HUMAN INTERACTION but lumped into one day like that is pretty lame. So here's to doing things that are more exciting... things like... blogging

Things to do (inside):
Post a Comment
-Visit the Met, the Whitney, the Guggenheim, and MoMA, all for FREE with your work ID. -Go to Film Forum, BAM, MoMA and see a rarely screened treat, old or new. -Go to Ziegfeld and see a new movie on the biggest fucking screen you'll see in your life. -Visit the lesser museums -- the Frick, the Morgan, the Cloisters (kind of an outdoorsy one, but still), P.S. 1 -- that even longtime New Yorkers rarely visit. -Stroll through Chelsea and check out the art galleries. -Sit in a coffee shop, even a Starbucks, and watch the most beautiful/crazy population in the world go by. -Eat Mexican food in a new neighborhood. -Ride the tram to Roosevelt Island. -Pick a random rock show at a L.E.S. bar and go for the cost of a beer. -Go to the Pink Pony or Max Fish. -Check out a book at a library, but be sure to explore the building first because it's likely a landmark. -Historic downtown. -Historic uptown. -Explore classic New York through movies by Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese, Sidney Lumet, and Spike Lee. -Blow half your paycheck at a fancy restaurant, if you're into that. -Look at apartments. ;) Things to do (outside): -Go to Central Park and spend the whole day there. -Mosey through the West Village, stopping in the shops, buying nothing (except maybe a cupcake at one of the bakeries). -Walk along the Hudson. -Walk along the East River. -Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. -Take the Staten Island Ferry to S.I. and back. -Explore the Columbia campus. -Go to a neighborhood you've never been to and take pictures (when you have your camera). -Take one of those walking tours in Time Out New York. -See a free rock show. Or a free movie. -Find your favorite building and go inside. -Queens beer garden. -Find where your favorite deceased New Yorker is buried and pay him/her a visit. I'm sure you can think of more -- Time Out New York's not a bad place to start, either. Keep me posted. |
